Wakaf DiRaja Sultan Idris Murshid-Ul-Adzam Shah is among the earliest royal endowments in the state of Perak. Originally known as the ‘Amanah Agama dan Khairat Sultan Idris’ (Sultan Idris Religious and Charitable Trust), it was established under Enactment No. 3 of 1917. The trust was founded by the late Sultan Idris Murshid-Ul-Adzam Shah I, a ruler renowned for his commitment to religion, education, and the welfare of his people. In line with contemporary developments, the trust was formally renamed as the ‘Wakaf DiRaja Sultan Idris Murshid-Ul-Adzam Shah’ under Section 7 of the Perak Waqf Enactment 2015 by the Majlis Agama Islam Dan Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPk) on 14 July 2017.

This waqf has given rise to three enduring institutions that continue to serve the community today: Ridzwaniah Mosque, the principal mosque of Kuala Kangsar; Al-Ghufran Royal Mausoleum (Makam Rahmatullah), a sacred burial ground maintained with dignity; and Madrasah Idrisiah, an Islamic educational institution that has nurtured many scholars of Perak. In addition, rows of shop lots endowed by the late Sultan serve as a sustainable source of income to support the management and development of the madrasah.

The main beneficiaries of this waqf include the congregation of Ridzwaniah Mosque, the students and educators of Madrasah Idrisiah, the heirs and custodians of Al-Ghufran Mausoleum, as well as the wider Muslim community of Kuala Kangsar who continue to benefit from this act of charity. The allocation of waqf proceeds is structured: the mosque receives funding for imams and maintenance, the mausoleum for Qur’an recitations and upkeep, while the madrasah receives the largest portion to ensure the continuity of its educational mission.
